How Dressmaker Scores Colour and Fabric

Build 443 changed how colour and fabric requirements are weighted: small panels such as collars and sleeves now count. Why an old dress can score differently.

Commission requirements ask for a colour and a fabric. How much of the dress has to satisfy that requirement was always a percentage calculation, and Build 443 changed which panels count.

What the change was

The old rule: a panel’s area was compared with the total fabric used in the dress, as a raw percentage. A collar or a sleeve is a small share of a dress, so a correct collar in the right colour moved the score almost not at all.

The new rule: panels on small components get a boost, so a collar or sleeve in the required colour carries meaningful weight.

The developer’s own wording is that this “conforms much closer to most players’ intuitive expectations”. Tags were already calculated this way, which is why tags never felt as strange as the percentage.

Why your old dress may shift

If a dress met its colour requirement mostly through a large skirt panel, the change barely moves it. If it met the requirement through cuffs, a collar or a trim band, the score can move.

Nothing is broken and no dress is deleted. The visible effect is a score that no longer matches the number you remember.

Reading a requirement correctly

  1. Check the requirement’s colour and fabric type separately; both are scored.
  2. Put the requirement where the eye lands: a collar, a sleeve or a visible panel counts now.
  3. Do not assume a high percentage on the main skirt satisfies a fabric requirement on its own.

What still drives the score

The requirement match is one input. Silhouette, trim quality and the sketchbook brief matter as much, which is why a technically correct dress can still score badly.

If a commission keeps failing, read the brief again before remaking the dress: beginner guide covers the commission loop, and pattern cutting covers the panels themselves.
